Given the time of year, I have hopes we can start a long camping thread to capture some ideas.
Given the time of year, I thought this would be a good topic. Some co-workers have invited us to bring our RV to a very large mixed use campground. Both RVs (recreational vehicles, I think Yippie would call them caravans) and tent sites. These sites have a small paved road meandering through the campground. Like most campgrounds, there's short walking paths to the bathrooms that pass by various campsites. Just for conversation, here's a hypothetical strategy guide for camping:
Get a dim flashlight, maybe use some older batteries. (While walking, the lower light is less disturbing. You seem much further away. Locate a campground map, usually given out upon arrival or posted at the entrance. 3. Using the campground map, develop a "route" that meanders around the campground, stopping at the various bathrooms. Have two recording devices. (1) for walking into an active area, such as a cell phone and (2) a recording device you can leave in place. A wooded area behind a campsite is the best place for leaving a recording device, but how do you work a drop off and retreve? How do you select the right campsite to leave it at?
Here's some DIY (Do It Yourself) build projects that might be useful:
This is a microphone amplifier built out of a walkman style tape player. These can be purchased for very little at used items store like goodwill. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/966534/diy_bionic_ear/
