A good question, Audio! I had the recorder under the bed on my side and was able to reach down and simply press the ON button (it is a digital recorder) under the guise of leaning over to get my handkerchief. Sometimes one has to be creative to continue the 'undercover surveillance'! (no pun intended). Best of all was the time I got up to 'switch off my phone' when in reality I was setting the recorder (which in that case was in my bag across the room). Mind you, I have missed some excellent sessions by not being able to get to the recorder or by not having it with me.

Same here. I use my phone to record and an app that makes it quick to just push a button from the lock screen. Levels, EQ, etc are already set. The only thing I have to do is edit the recording later and do some post filtering to remove unwanted noise. Like Aspic I can usually tell when the things are about to get hot and start recording before hand. Also like Aspic, I've missed some nice opportunities. But there will be more.
