What is for a layman of the recording that interests us the most basic material to do better than a smartphone microphone? Do you have any specific advice if I buy equipment on the amazon website? Thank you! Thank you!

Any device called a "USB digital audio voice/sound recorder."
Now, which type of device(s) is/are the most suitable depends on the environment at whatever location
