so on the phone app I usually do +30db and try to do wall contact with a firm phone case. I actually just picked up an Olympus so if any advice on that would be awesome.

I think I'm just gonna drop the raw for the other sound from the other night and now I'm gonna give my Olympus a go. Little noise at the beginning of this one as a warning.

Yeah this one took quite a bit of editing to get to. I'm starting to think my apartment is just too thick of floors and walls. I live in hot climate so A/C's are prob adding noise. Last night I recorded in one spot and tonight will try another

Do you live in an apartment or a house? cause if you live in an apartment then it's much harder to catch even with an app on an iphone cause of how much thickness is built into the structure and it also depends where the source of the sound is coming from as sometimes you'll have to point the phone in a certain direction to where the sound is bouncing off from so you maybe able to catch it more clearly

pretty new apartment. Last night I put the recorder near my door to listen for noise in the hall, but I believe I caught them around 5am upstairs so tonight I will place near the ceiling.

It wasn't the best but trying to get snippet together.

yea I live in an apartment as well and the building has thickness so it's hard to really hear sex noises going on even if you were to put your ear against the wall it would have to be extremely put leaned against the wall but as for hearing upstairs neighbors I normally would open the window and use an app on the phone that raises noise levels up and down and I would point to where the noise bounces off which I do have neighbors that does have sex and I have neighbors to my left one floor above the other that leaves on their bedroom lights past 2am and turns it off at 6am

I'll give that a shot. I live by a street, but I swear I can hear them at night and wake up so maybe this will work. Do your neighbors have their window open?

yeh sorry..not trying to be critical or anything . i know its hard sometimes catching a clearview of it. one my recordings i could hear it loud and clear but when i tried recording it using my xiaomi 10 pro it turned out into some muffled sounds too..well hope your luck gets better out there in the field

Yes they do even during the day when people are using the pool as you can hear someone getting spanked and some moaning here and there but at night is when they get loud cause that's people are asleep and don't normally pay attention to it because of the tv going or people playing video games or people talking loudly on the balcony

One thing you may want to consider is doing the high pass before the amplify. Get rid of all the rumble first

Wow, that's what I call nice housemates...
Here's a version with my standard cleaning applied to it. Still absolutely far from perfect, but I think you can hear the moans a little bit better.
What I did:
- Amplify
- Set the high pass to 250 hz
- Set the low pass to 14,000 hz
- A very small noise reduction of 8 %
- Amplify again

How much do you amplify, percentage-wise?

I usually amplify as much as possible without causing overdrives. In Audacity this is the default value when you launch the amplifyer.
