I had even less of a clue than him when I went to uni - and throughout my twenties as well. The
internet was still in its infancy back then, and hardcore pornography was illegal in the UK, of course.
Academics and students used e-mail, but download speeds were very, very slow for web browsing.
(The university still had computers with 80186 and 80286 microprocessors.) I recall a student in my
year who would hide in the library and allow himself to be locked inside all night just so that he could
download a few porn pictures!
