Dear Yeppie,
Since you have moved to the other server, I see some members have new
posts but I still keep getting the following
message :
504 Gateway Time-out
The server didn't respond in time.
Is it only me? or there is a technical error? If it is me please tell me
how to fix it?

That`s interesting. Sometimes I get this message, too, and when I try refresh, I get the message again.
What I found out as a solution for me is to close my browser (using Firefox) restart the browser and recall our beloved webpage again...

All I can say is that a small team is very busy working to find and implement a solution. And "sorry" of course.

Its happening constantly - has been for 3 weeks or more unfortunately - this new provider isn't providing and its a shame - this can't be that complex to run with consistent performance

Me too.
It's only the threads on the main forum page.
The main forum page "
index.php" loads very fast. No Problems with that. But if you click any other thread you get the "504 gateway time out" page.

A lot of time goes into new website code and servers so i m thankful for that

Thanks physicist and thanks everybody for your patience!
Engineers from the hosting company have now looked into this, too and they claim to have found the reason for the slow server. They are very expensive but I asked them to fix the configuration because this lasts way too long and the other expert didn´t succeed so far. I do hope that they will fix it before the weekend but they couldn´t promise because of some other technical trouble with their plattform.

Hello yeppie,
what kind of webhosting is this? A prefonfigured webhosting package, a virtual server or dedicated server?
Maybe this can help?

Hello jinhui,
this sounds like an interesting approach! Thanks for the link. I will wait for the results of leaseweb´s engineer but if they won´t help, I´ll try with your idea.
The site is on a dedicated server now.
Thanks again,
yeppie

Sorry, it's the 504 error, not the 502. So my link above might not be useful.
Maybe take a look at this instead:

Maybe, as an additional motivation we should gain this engineer as a community member, too...
Probably then, he cannot resist to put all possible efforts into this job...

Thanks again jinhui. Yes, it is the 504 error usually but right after I read your first message, I got 502 errors for some time ... what did you do?
Good idea Thomas - the engineer will probably notice the community and our topic as they know that it is the phpbb script that is slow.

Wow. I´m totally stunned. A handful of server experts and one dork (me) worked on the server speed problem during the last 3 weeks. Tweaks were applied, settings were changed, configurations of the server and the database were optimized. But nothing really worked despite some tiny improvements.
But today I asked a guy from Vietnam to check the phpbb settings for me - he looked into it, optimized the config and within 20 minutes all speed problems seem to have vanished. Why didn´t I find him before?
So what I´m announcing here: we can now enjoy the power of the new server!
Apologies for being a dumbhead who couldn´t fix this before.
