I too am uncomfortable with those camera's. I have had security come up to me asking me if I was alright seeing me lingering around doing nothing but stop-walk-stop.
But on other occasions I decided to just do what I needed to do even with the camera's there and never heard anything (from night porters). I often look at reception to see if they have a bunch of little screens that they will sit and watch all night but I think many hotels don't have anyone permanently looking at them but they can play back the footage in case something has happened.
So I wouldn't advise NOT to record just because of camera's tbh..? If you're really unsure don't drop your phone under a door when right in front view but jjust hold it as though you are on whatsapp.
