Beautiful forensic analysis Soundbite, thanks for the suggestion. I've just tried the same trick and I think you're right.

One of the things I didn't mention is that I twice tippy-toed past their room and paused for a short while during this recording and on both occasions I didn't hear a peep from inside. In fact I didn't think I'd caught any sounds at all until I examined the recording the next morning. They were definitely keeping themselves very quiet.

These USB mic's are brilliant little things, they're so sensitive you can often hear people breathing in the next room. I think this is why some people have, in my opinion, misinterpreted these noises as being much louder than they really were.

Either way, it's nice that this recording has attracted a bit of interest, thanks everyone for your comments.
