Re: through the letterbox
IMO I think the line is drawn on expectation of privacy.
As much as I admire the sheer guts it took to get this recording, I completely agree with Yeppie's pulling it (pun intended). There's enough legal issues with stuff like this going on I don't think he has a choice given your backstory about the capture method. Also his owning, maintaining and growing this site as he has certainly gives him the right to play God on stuff like this - there really isn't any other site like this out there at all. Enjoy the paradise
Going on someone's private property to record something that otherwise wouldn't be heard from a public place crosses a huge line - and the people there would be justifiably pissed. If the sounds are loud enough to come through the letterbox and you can record from the sidewalk or the street is a whole 'nother story.
I'd even make the argument (although preferably not with a manager or security guard) that hotel corridors are public throughways and anything that gets into them from rooms is fair game. Especially if I'm a guest of the hotel my fee definitely gives me a legal right to walk those paths and if I hear something, why can't I stop and listen? Same goes with common areas and corridors in apartments and condos.
All the neighborhood recordings I've heard here have the similar backstory of either coming through a wall into our member's apartment - or recorded from the member's apartment since the couple's windows were opened at the time.
Listenguys, I think you really have some guts and talent - now knowing where Yeppie and the community are coming from, I'm totally confident that in legitimate circumstances, you'll be able to get a lot of good material.. I certainly hope to hear more of your stuff down the road.

Big thanks all you guys for calming things down! I may have to polish my english as I never wanted to be rude or offend somebodyยดs feelings here but I seem to have failed. Apologies for that.

Yeppie your English is more than fine, you wasn't rude, you was just not beating round the bush. Not protecting members of this community from each other but merely protecting this great site/community from outsiders who may look for opportunities to take it down.
Respect goes out to you for all you do, to sc0tt for the mediation, to OP for the recording and possibly for not making things bigger than they have to be.
You guys make sure you record the sounds of the group hug and post it in the members section?

Re: through the letterbox
I'd just like to add to Scott's comment.
Should we be commenting at all about how we made these recordings? I don't really know whether pressing a microphone to the wall of my hotel room is illegal. It might be, but that won't stop me doing it again next time I hear something.
Equally, I don't know whether pushing a microphone against the door of a hotel room down the corridor is illegal. I believe hotel security would react very badly if they ever found me doing this though. For this reason I am extremely careful about checking for cameras in corridors when I'm on the prowl.
I've never actually put a microphone inside a room where others are making love. I'm certain that would be illegal and for me, that would be crossing a line too far. Even a perv' like me has some limits!
I think in future I might describe the couples if I've seen them but not the circumstances in which the recording was made.
xx

Agreed LeStanf. The recordings from "down the hall" are the rare gems of this site that a lot of us try to search out. But it's probably not a good idea to write an essay about such recordings.

Re: through the letterbox
It's quite a conundrum, isn't it. On the one hand, I'd feel safer and more anonymous providing less detail. On the other, I always enjoy reading a detailed backstory, think they can really add something to the audio, and wouldn't want to deprive others of that experience if there's a story to be told. Also, if I'm completely honest, part of me provides detail because those posts usually get more feedback.LeStanf wrote:Should we be commenting at all about how we made these recordings?
Believe it or not, I dimly recall having similar morals many moons ago. SSL folklore would have you believe I sold them to the highest bidder in order to afford a better microphoneLeStanf wrote:I've never actually put a microphone inside a room where others are making love. This would be a shame. I enjoy reading your stuff.LeStanf wrote:I think in future I might describe the couples if I've seen them but not the circumstances in which the recording was made.
