Maybe they were actually banging inside the bathroom with the door open? Either way, leaving
a bathroom door open with the shower running could set off the smoke alarm (because of the steam).
Then they would receive a visit from the hotel staff - now that would be interesting for some of the staff,
or just an annoyance for others. However, most experienced hotel staff are used to these embarrassing situations
- they've seen it all before.
