Fishing in Madrid

Hello everyone

I'm afraid I have some bad news.

This afternoon I went to pick up the USB recorder and it was not in its hiding place.

Therefore, either one of the guests has seen it, or someone from the cleaning staff.

Returning to that hotel is out of the question and I certainly had a good scare and I am worried that if it was hotel staff they are going to investigate, although I think the cameras are not activated.

It was a risk I was taking by leaving the recorder on for so long and I feel stupid, plus I hope all this has no consequences.

Be very careful and be prudent.

It was good while it lasted.

As long as you have not been doing it a long time, where, sooner or later, it was going to get spotted, then you have nothing to feel overly pressed about.

I was surprised when people did it a lot though. I used tho think, 'you know they are going to find that thing eventually right?'.

Sad to hear that and know how you feel. I had a bad scare when I lost some gear a number of years ago.

Ive lost about 16 usb sticks or more through out the course trying to capture.i even lost count how many i lost one time overnight .normally they do nothing..as it was capturing hallway stuff..what can they prosecute you for? Nothing..its not like you were invading anyones privacy..i wouldnt worry too much about it. When you hang around hotels long enough this is bound to happen now and then, it happens to most of us every now and then. But dont let that put you down. But if you are scared or think its risky, i understand. It was a good hotel and i really loved your work. Thank you.hope you get another hotel like this

Thank you very much for your words of support.

The truth is that it is a shame to lose a place like that, but the risk was evident and although the hiding place seemed good, I abused it a lot and it was within the limits of what was possible.

Surely it will have no consequences, I already lost a recorder in the same place that fell behind the closet where I was hiding it, but I can't take the risk of going back.

I hope to be able to contribute very punctually some recordings of neighbors or a trip. Difficult to find another place where they are so careless as not to change the code on the main entrance door...

Haha if you want to brass it out, tell them you are researching noise levels in shared spaces and your recorder went missing; and can you please have it back?

Most likely, a cleaner saw it, picked it up, then shrugged her shoulders and threw it into the trash, before continuing
to clean another 15 rooms she had left to do. (Although, in the hotel I used to work at, anything electronic left behind
by guests - phone chargers, earphones, etc. - was placed in a box until those guests returned to reclaim the item(s).)

That's why it helps to know the cleaners' shift hours, so that you can retrieve all devices before they
start their shifts in the morning.

You can go back, just not too soon. Give it a couple of months.

Security footage in hotels is generally only reviewed following serious incidents. And usually only the hotel management
have password access to the CCTV system. The exception to this is in the expensive hotels that have security staff.

Thank you all!

After the initial scare and seeing that some colleagues have lost several USB recorders, I'll probably let a couple of months pass and try again.

It is better to be cautious than ambitious and my mistake was leaving the device in the same place for up to three days. Although it was very high, it was still somewhat visible or at the expense of the cleaning staff thinking of cleaning the dust.

I have to learn from mistakes...

I take this opportunity to share the latest audio that I have been able to obtain from that hotel. I had a recording pending to listen to and I was able to extract this.

See you soon!!

Sndprv is correct. It was a cleaner.

Security in such hostels barely exists. And I doubt with you coming and going so regularly, they never say CCTV. Its probably only kept as a security measure in case someone complains. No one is reviewing it 24/7 like in luxurious hotels.

I wouldn't worry about it.
