That truly is the worst feeling: realizing that you missed gold because of an equipment mistake. There's one that I'm kicking myself for missing two years later on.

I did feel awful when i noticed the previous recording was only a few seconds thinking i messed it
up. but the one before that was the long section i thought i lost.

I was at a music festival, and noticed a couple dancing together, then walking off into the dark. I followed at a long distance, and it was clear that they were heading back to their tent for the night, holding hands and flirting all the way. They stopped at the bathrooms, brushed there teeth and all, and I was able to keep my eyes on them. Followed to their tent, everyone else near them asleep. Giggles, small talk, and then phrase that really got me: "We can't, someone will hear!" She said it with the clear air of someone trying to convince themselves. They were kissing when I set my recorder, and I decided to not stay out in that exposed place and listen. When I came back to retrieve my gold, I realized I had flipped the switch on my recorder the wrong way, that one was opposite of my main recorder. I'm still upset years later. They had such chemistry...

that is the worst feeling. the total opposite of hearing the first sounds of a couple.
