I had a fair bit of trouble opening some files because of format issues, and didn't really want to have at least three audio players software [real, quick, windows media] downloaded on my PC. I then found a new audio/video player called VLC media player. It is a free software download and, set as default, seems to handle most file formats posted here. Being freeware, it is constantly being updated and improved.

VLC media player isn´t that new but what I´d call the standard player for all video files. And as it plays a lot of audio files too, it can be recommended if you´re looking for a one-for-all-solution. I still am happy with winamp for everything audio.
