Motel Couple

OK, here it is. I've been collecting a number of recordings over the past 2 years from motels all across the country. I travel alot for business and try to stay at places that I think I'll have a good shot at getting a recording at. I was thinking of starting a site like hidden mic and accumulated over 60 files so far.

I use an Olympus VN-2100PC digital recorder. If I hear something interesting going in a room at a motel I'm staying at, I place the recorder at the bottom of the door and walk away for a bit. You'll usually hear me putting the recorder down at the beginning and me picking it back up at the end of each recording. the sound quality varies but usually I have very good luck.

This was a hispanic couple at a Motel 6 in central Ohio in April. Let me know what you think.

Motel 6 is the best.

I just stayed at a motel 6 and heard a couple next door. Unfortunately the walls were too thick for my MP3 player to pick up anything. But i kept my ear stuck to the wall. They went at it for at least four times with rest in between.

Wow... 60 unheard files...

The content is great man. But (there's always a but) the encoding quality is pretty horrible. Please don't take that as a moan, because it's a great file, but if you can increase the recording quality on that recorder of yours I'd love to hear the difference.

Big thanks for sharing, and I'm hoping... no praying... that you're gonna be posting up the colection.

Great stuff, Strander!

I am fascinated how much the mic yould capture - I should really think of replacing my cheap MP3-Player ...

Cleveland Ohio

This was taken in September at a scuzzy no tell motel just outside Cleveland Ohio. I found the place while traveling and began staying close by to this and another motel down the street that have yielded some pretty good recordings.
I have alot of files that exceed the 8mb max. Could use some advise on free editing software and maybe I could pare some down a bit. Either way enjoy.

Thanks for comments answers to questions

Scott,
I have the recorder set at its highest recording quality. Maybe I'll try a few at the lowest setting but don't think that'll improve it at all. Remember I'm setting this outside a door and catching what I can.

Digger the Olympus cost me about $60. Not too expensive. I've had one taken on me in the past so in the event that happens again I don't want to spend too much on a recorder. Picked it up at a local radio shack

Motel 6.

Strander,

The Motel 6 I stood at was quite busy so leaving a recorder on the floor is not a option. Loud music was playing in the back ground as well. Any suggestions?

Hey Strander, ok cool, just checking you were already recording in the highest quality you could. Don't bother testing it at lower quality though, it'll only screw up the environment more and you might miss out on a decent session.

Editing-wise check out Audacity if you're on windows or mac. http://audacity.sourceforge.net if memory serves correctly, but if not just google it. If you need a hand editing stuff down or sorting through files etc, drop me a pm and i'd be happy to help.

Cheers, lookin forward to listening to the 2nd post!
