hey everyone it's Adam so today's topic I wanted to discuss is that I will be staying at a Hilton Garden Inn and that I'm not saying where because I'm keeping that anonymous but the hotel I'm going to be staying at for three nights is located in an industrial zone of the city near a Casino and that I was thinking of waiting until 2am to see if there is do not disturb signs on the doors so like what are my chances of hearing a couple having sex as I will be recording with an Ipod touch that resembles a slim Iphone so any tips would be great.
The thing you need to know when it comes to this is that the chance is always there, you just need to maximise it.
First, the best thing you can do is go to sites like tripadvisor or any other hotel booking site and look at the reviews. Search for the obvious key terms like "thin walls", "noisy", "sex noises" complaints in reviews etc. Tripadvisor I know has a search function that lets you search for specific keywords within reviews. Search for the current place you'll stay at. If there are complains about thin walls and noise you are in good hands. This will help you maximise your chances of hearing something if a previous guest has complained about what you wanted to seek
Then you need to be concerned about getting spotted. Which means scouting the floor for cameras, potential blind spots where you might get trapped and knowing the general layout of the floors so you can make a swift exit if you need to. Knowing if there is security patrols in corridors, late house keeping, how busy can they get, where the elevators are etc. Do not proceed without having this information. If the chance of getting spotted is high then its best to avoiding roaming the corridors. Just don't do it.
If the the coast if clear from security and cameras, then whenever you walk in the corridors smile and nod to a guest if you might pass one. Just look... normal.
Now to address your points.
Do not disturb signs are hit and miss according to the many regulars here who go to hotels. Most of the time they actually having nothing happening behind them. But be on the look out and listen closely to what you might hear. this profession is about listening, not seeing
Be open to the sound of couples in the room, the usual laughing and giggles. Perhaps the TV might be on loudly so listen closely. If you suspect something might happen in a room, make a note of the number and pass by it later, who knows
You can also do the method of spotting a couple in the lobby, following them at a safe distance and knowing which room they are staying in. This is high risk since there is a chance the couple might not do anything and you waste time. This method is recommended when you have USB plants on hand. Since you have mentioned you only have an iphone at the moment this is a high risk/high reward situation so judge accordingly. Always a good chance if the couple is holding hands, leaning into each other. Maybe they kiss each other when they wait for the elevator. so read them carefully.
As for the timing, perhaps pick a time to start and go around every 30 minutes. I think you can start earlier than 2am to maximise your chances, although I get the logic because there is a casino and if its a the weekend a couple might return late after a night of partying. I can't say much about time other than what I know about it in general. Some places it looks like things are happening at all hours of the day, other places it starts at 4am. You'll just have to find out.
Anyway, hope this helps and keep us updated!
