iPhone XS as Recording Platform

I have recently acquired the iPhone XS Max, and when recording video I find the audio to be spectacular, especially for a consumer and non-specialized device. Also, it is discrete and will likely draw very little attention in-hand, given a little discretion and situational awareness! The only hiccup, video appears to be the only way to get this excellent crisp stereo audio.I assume, though I'm not sure, but shouldn't it be relatively simple to extract the audio therefrom?Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hi,
just load the movie clip into iMovie. In there you can seperate Audio and Video into independent streams. Once you have done that, delete the video stream and export the remaining audio into a file. The whole operation should not take longer than 1 min.
Cheers Muffe

There should also be a voice memo app already on the iPhone. If not or if that isn't suitable for whatever reason I'm sure there are probably other apps you can download from the App Store. There isn't anything wrong with recording video besides the extra storage. If you're on a Mac Muffe2003's suggestion would work but also Quicktime has an "Export Audio Only" option.
Also, I don't know if it'd help or provide anything different but there is the "Music Memo" app for iOS devices provided from Apple. It might be overkill but it may record in stereo or have a less filtered sound than the Voice recorder App which which be tailored mostly to vocal frequencies. I'm just positing that and don't know if that's the case or even if it's a bad thing. It all depends on the situation. Personally I'd rather aim for a full frequency recording and deal with hums and noise after the fact rather than a recording that only picked up a more narrow band of frequencies. But I'm also comfortable with fixing audio and rather have the control than worry that I missed something.

I use the app iTalk for my iphone X. It starts very quickly (open app, press the big button and there you go).

Try out AVR Pro by Newkline.
Search on App Store for iOS: "Awesome Voice Recorder Pro"
I usually don't use my iphone for this stuff, but there have been times when my one Olympus is tied up in my room monitoring that area, I have the other Olympus, but battery is waning, and I am out of USB devices - this comes through well in a pinch!
No time limit on recording and continues recording during your phone's screen timeout. Sound quality is very good. Combined with the mic hardware on your XS should be excellent.
Brings to mind another issue. I recently scaled down from X to SE because I love the smaller profile, but I keep my X up to date because it has the better camera for when I view and record rocket launches from Vandenberg. And on those days, I just transfer out the SIM and use the X as my phone for the day. Just occurred to me that when I go for another snooping weekend in the near future to switch to the X because the audio mic on my X will be much better. I have AVR on both phones.

Take a look at the JustPressRecord App. A small fee for a good audio recording app. I use it for my meetings. Haven’t had a chance to use it record sex sounds yet. May be some day I will have the courage. Haha

I know that this is an old post, but it may still be useful. I have used Voice Recorder Pro with my Iphone, and I think it’s fantastic. Apart from all the great fetures, it also allows you to set a pin code for accessing the app
I might soon post something I recorded with it
