Guys! I need advice. The couple living above me are having sex daily, I can tell from the thumping, but I am having a hard time getting any audible sounds. I bought zoom h1n (was this a bad choice?) and it isn't capturing anything but their thumps (what I hear) and ambient bass noise. I live in new built apartments and main is the noise treatment fucking good! I can't hear them ever, unless I pay close attention.

Their room is connected to the bathroom like mine and I even shoved the zoom inside the exhust fan, still nothing just bass,noise and thumps. I put my iphone recorder in there too and had similar results. I tried listening with the glass on the wall, still nothing. I can't hear them unless I press my ear hard into the wall and stay still.

I want to get them so bad and I can't figure it out. Help me guys what do i Do?

That's really frustrating. Zoom h1n is a pretty good choice albeit it isn't portable or ideal to conceal. Does your apartment building have a balcony or a laundry room from where you can see their bedroom window? If so, you can attach your H1N to a pole and point to their hopefully ajar window. Otherwise, you have to let this one go as we can't get quality recording through walls.Look for other better opportunities.

Or plant a usb recorder under their door. I surely will be doing that the next time am at a hotel..learmt that from the experts of the trade in this forum

I feel your pain. A hottie moved in above me a few months ago, but her boyfriend lives far away and the one time he visited for the weekend, I had to go out of town.

If you want to capture them but the other suggestions don't work for you, a contact microphone MIGHT work. I had one made by Sun Mechatronics a few years ago that worked very well, but they pick up lots of noise and an AC unit turning on at a bad time can ruin a recording.

If you decide to get one, I would recommend getting it from Sun Mechatronics. You'll also need to do prep work to get decent recordings. Learn their schedule and when they like to fuck so that you can turn off anything in your apartment that makes noise. This includes the obvious stuff like TVs, PCs, radios, and fans, but also things like your AC, your refrigerator, and your water heater (if those start humming you WILL pic it up with a contact mic). You will also need to find a way to hold the mic perfectly still, because even a tiny amount of movement produces a ton of noise.

If you want an idea of what a contact mic can do, I have a file in the archives under the neighbor section of a short recording done with my old one.

Or,, just relax and enjoy the sounds and don't worry about the capture. Important to avoid risk where you live.

Trying to capture sounds directly above you is very difficult. You may have better luck going outside and using a shotgun mic type setup aimed at their bedroom window. Shotgun mics are not very discreet though so you may need to find some way to conceal it (newspaper, etc).

Don't try hiding in plain sight either doesn't work. IE sitting crosslegged on the sidewalk below them in a KGB uniform with headphones, a shotgun mike and reel-to-reel recorder

i have neighbors that i live up above and down below that i can hear using an ear listen device very well.

and if you want to record it, you'll have to buy a few items below.

things you'll need.

1. smartphone with any voice recorder app

2. ear listen through wall device (can find these on ebay/amazon/ali-express)

3. audio adapter splitter such as this one

4. male to male audio cable

connect the audio splitter to your smartphone.
connect the male to male cable to the mic-portion of the cable
connect the other end of the male to the listening device.
record and voila.

any walls will work, preferably concrete wall which gives the best results

Just wanted to share, this is the sound I am getting. I've tried everything to edit it. Either they dont make any noise other then the bed, or it is not them having sex and some other noise. what do you guys think?

Definitely noises involved there from the parts I heard I think but lot of hissing too which is overrunning the noise upstairs. The only suggestion I would have is to have a different recording device, you might also find that the noise travels down the wall better than through the roof, worth trying

Cleaned up as much as I could. Between 10-10:10 and 12-12:10 mins you hear moans but very faint. Your recording device picks up deep sounds quite well but higher sounds seem lost. I'd definitely recommend an upgrade to a device like above. More so because I think it would something well worth listening to

Ordered what you recommended. Should be coming next week. Hopefully I can catch somethign good.
