Why are women noisy in bed?

OPINION: Yes, it's true. Some women yell, others prefer the sounds of silence.

I know, because I'm a woman, I talk to women, and I watch really educational movies featuring women having sex that are both accurate portrayals of sex between modern adults and costing me a fortune.

But why? Why the difference? Aren't all women really just the same? Perplexing, isn't it?

Taking my tongue out of my cheek to help search for an answer, I am pleased to discover Doctor Debby Herbenick of the Kinsey Institute has recently addressed this particular conundrum.

Apparently there is insufficient research to answer definitively, but a few theories abound.

One - women are noisy during sex because they feel it will heighten male sexual arousal.

But don't go thinking this is a sign sound-sharers are carers; Herbenick writes these hussies could simply be hurrying-up their love-honey's ejaculatory explosion, so ending sex and saving time (time better spent watching Desperate Housewives most likely).

Two - women are noisy during sex because they can't help it.

Screams, sighs, moans, gurgles - they can just sort of come out.

Well, we all know all manner of stuff just sort of comes out during sex - from liquids to "I love you" - and none of it should be taken seriously.

Three - women are noisy during sex because they are faking an orgasm. It hurts my heart to write that (faking hurts the faker most!), but believing so much is hardly hard.

What's interesting is that "noise" translates to "good", whether as a sign of release, or awareness of pleasure, real, hurried or otherwise. How did that come to be?

In his study of boisterous bonking, Doctor Christopher Ryan, co-author of Sex at Dawn: The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality, refers to the work of British primatologist Stuart Semple, who found noisy females across a variety of species.

Dubbed "copulation calling", the vocalisations occurred just before, during or immediately after mating, and contained audio information that incited enough male passion to provoke sperm competition.

What kind of information, you ask? Well, female baboons transmitted fertility data, and an indication about the status of the male they were shagging.

Which is interesting, if you apply it to humans, and slightly disturbing if you're of the school that thinks most modern women only make sounds because porn stars do.

I, for one, am not of that school. Sure, some women might mimic movies, but others will not - point is, it's individual.

Personally, I enjoy expressing pleasure - be it simpers of delight over a delicious meal or whooping over joyful sex - and I like it best when my partner chimes in.

This has landed me in hot water before (yes, I got a letter from a neighbour this one time), so I recognise how important it is to be considerate.

Then again, I also know how thrilling enforced muteness can be.

Conversely

Why do guys grunt and groan when they are having sex?
To convey their masculinity?
To stress their prowess at lovemaking?
Again as a release of their energy as they orgasm?

Or just for vocal effect to show his lady how much he wants her and to impress her?
Some guys only give a little sigh as they release their orgasm. But again others give very loud groans and grunt as they pump into their lady.

I think a guy likes to hear his lady moan as he takes her. As well as hearing her vocalize.
The most erotic being
"Fuck me!"
Showing that she is in the mood for love making.
And that she is hot for her guy to.
Wanting him in the most intimate situation and opening herself to him.

Just a few thoughts on vocal or noisy sex!

personally I think all guys find the sounds a woman makes during sex to be very stimulating. It must go back to our basic animal like instincts to get aroused by it. All woman have different types of sounds, some are screamers, moaners, groaners, or quiet. But it's interesting that more intense noises gets a guy really aroused. Whenever i stay at a hotel I like to hear others have sex. And when I am staying at a hotel with my significant other, I love to have great sex with her, and I love it when she is vocal because i know there might be some other person listening in on us. Its kind of a turn on knowing that someone can here her passionate cries of pleasure.

I think its pretty simple. Look at primates and you will see the females back in the camp making lots of noise - they communicate that way. Meanwhile the males are out in the forest hunting (yes apes do hunt and eat meat). I've noticed the males communicate (and teach) with looks movement and subtle signals, they have to to avoid disturbing the quarry.
So back to 'us'. How often do women ask their guys to 'talk to them'?. Meanwhile the guys say I talk all the time - you just havent learned to listen to the soundless messages I send.
As a women I cant help but laugh, cry, shout and yes when getting laid I make a lot of noise. I always did and my mum always did. I've two brothers who I know from living with them can shag a girl half to death (not me in case someone got the wrong end of the stick) and make no noise at all apart from the banging headboards and the odd explitive when they cum.

Two theories I've heard about why women are so vocal.........
1. Supposedly a woman's clitoris has twice the number of pleasureable nerve endings on it as the underside of a man's penis does.
2. European research using EEG brainwave scans indicated that tiny portions of a woman's brain may actually shut down during sexual arousal. The researchers said that during female orgasm tiny portions of a woman's brain totally shut off. The theory was that this may provoke almost uncontrolable and animal-like vocalizing from women.
I'm not saying this is all fact.......... I'm just relaying a couple of various things I've read.

Reading this makes my brain produce a number of misogynous thoughts ... how can I say stop it?
Another question (seriously): doesn´t this happen to male brains too?

I'm going with points 2 &3 on this one. It just comes out. If its just pure "oh fuck" pleasure and you're in that place or its kind of took your breath and you're gripping something for your life. How women stay quiet is beyond me.
On the flip side of that. I hold my head in shame as I have faked with previous lovers wishing I was watching Desperate Housewives! Thankfully those days have gone!

I think females scream so loud because they are able to get themselves completely lost in the act, whereas males can still control them to a certain degree.
