My Dutch colleagues in a Barcelona hotelroom
I am pretty proud of my accomplishment when it comes to this clip.
Last year, I attended a three-days European sales meeting of my company in Barcelona. The key sales people were all there, over a hundred people. In the course of the presentations, I noticed that the Dutch members on the team, Rob (tall, 45, grey hair, a nice fellow and very soft spoken) and our new colleague Marjan (33 or 34, tall, blonde, slender, a C-cup at the very least) were constantly eyeing each other. My suspicions seemed to be confirmed when I noticed Marjan, on my return to my room after a (rather too lengthy I'm afraid) visit to the bar on the first night, quickly disappearing into Rob's room. Both are - need I say - married, and Rob has two sons, Marjan one baby daughter.
Unfortunately, my room was at the far end of the hallway and there was no way I could hear anything without exposing myself to any curious looks.
The following night, right after dinner, I told Rob that I wanted to briefly discuss a commercial issue with him that concerned a Belgian-Dutch client. He took me to his room where we discussed - do not underestimate me ! - a very real commercial problem which we were both aware of. What he did not notice, however, is that, when I left, I 'forgot' my small briefcase in his room in a spot he was not likely to notice if he did not actually look for it (it was more or less hidden behind the seat he had offered me, which offered also a nice explanation as to why I forgot it). What he did not know either was that my personal voice recorder was hidden in my briefcase, activated and all and with a fully charged battery (which is allegedly sufficient for 8 hours' recording).
He never came to see me that night to bring my briefcase back. Guess he had other things on his mind .
The following morning during breakfast I told him that I seemed to have forgotten my briefcase in his room. He immediately got it for me.
When I went back to my room my recorder was still sitting in my briefcase. The battery had run flat, of course. But the important thing is : my trick had worked !
I had to do some editing, of course, but the present clip provides you with an accurate record of the Dutch national sale meeting as it took place that night in a Barcelona hotel room. I'm afraid that most Belgian meetings are far less exciting .
Enjoy !

A really excellent recording! Would you mind posting a translation into english of the dialogue or at least the best of it?

great stuff. however out here in the states, we are not allowed to do stuff like that because of privacy issues. the best I can do is record outside of hotel hallways, near doors, and through neighboring walls. So long as we don't physically invade their personal space. thank goodness sound travels. You are so lucky over where you guys are at

@efj sanchez :
Not sure I was allowed to do this in Spain, or, for that matter, in Belgium or Holland either. But I figured, what the hell . It is not as if I invaded their personal space : the guy actually invited me in. I can't help it if i forget my briefcase . In any case, I am not disclosing any identities here.

You got a point turbo, I would have done the same thing too when I record I don't disclose identities or locations either. but I try my best to describe the situation.

There's no clip attached from where I'm sitting. Explanation? Are European sound files formatted differently?
