Get rid of the "Uploads" button

Post by spock »

Yeppie,
Just a suggestion, but it seems to me many of the members just go directly to the "uploads" link at the top of the board. While, this is an easy way to get quick sex sounds, it makes for a less active community. Very few comments despite hundreds of downloads.

So I would get rid of the uploads button and make them work a little harder for their clips. Perhaps it encourages more participation.

Just a thought. Otherwise, I love what you have created over the last 10 years. Here's to 10 more!

Spock,
yeah, you might be right. I didn´t think about that before but I will consider your idea.

Nevertheless the download-answer-ratio is far better than in most communites I know and I guess most people act as I do usually, downloading a days uploads and listening (or watching in other forums) later.

Thanks
yeppie

Just my .02 cents, but I think Spock has a good idea.

I know I'm a lot more likely to respond or even download if there is some backstory included with the sound. I would think that most (if not all) of the people that are posting are happy to hear some feedback, and are more likely to upload more when the feedback is positive. Downloading from the "Uploads" link pretty much eliminates the feedback I would think.

I agree with Yeppie on the "more active here than elsewhere" comment too, as other sites like TV, it is like pulling teeth to get a comment or even a star rating....

I've been told I'm a good listener...

I'll add me two cents that I think this is a great idea. Forcing people to get them from the individual threads will hopefully get them to respond more. Doing that will therefore encourage uploaders to upload more, I think. Getting rid of the Uploads button isn't likely to hurt anyone except those that do nothing but take the sounds for themselves and never, ever comment. We should discourage that as much as possible.

... and except me. It is useful to have all recently uploaded files on one page when I do my weekly job of updating the archives. But I think I can do without and will edit the template files within the next days. Please remind me should I forget ;-)
Thanks for suggesting and discussing this topic.

A man of his word..
Yeppie, thanks for giving this a shot. There may be some initial confusion. I hope this drives some additional contributions.

And the page we could see all recent file uploads is now gone? Why?

echo_walls, I moved your question from the announcement section to the thread where we discussed this. So you´ll find your answer above.

Is there anyway to split the submissions in to sections or to add the ability to add tags? There definitely seems to be at least three types of recordings posted here - "In the field" (neighbors, motels etc..) , "Consensual" (wives, girlfriends), and "Found" (from other videos or sources i.e. not actually recorded by the uploader).

Tags are not a bad idea, but I don't see the need for new catagories.

I think I don´t get the sections idea. We have subforums here and in the archives, what is different to sections?
Tags are a great idea which would have been implemented if integrated in the forum software or a reliable add-on.

Even if people just put tags in the title of their upload (and we can use the search function of our computers) it will help to sort through what is appealing to listener and what they want to avoid. Maybe I'm just sensitive but it can be quite a mood killer to listen to certain types of recordings trying to find something you like.

I will say getting rid of the upload button has encouraged me to contribute more in the comments, so it's worked for at least one person.

Well, having to go through a bunch of post to see when new material has been posted is... an annoyance. I am glad you all think it's a great improvement. Kind of reminds me of the first class I took in Win 4.0 (1997). They give you this whole huge wonderful operating system, then spend three days teaching you how to take all the rights away from everyone who uses it.

Good luck, I'll be around, just not very often.

Nice way to ruin a great site spock. Next time, keep your ideas to yourself please.
