Hi everyone. I recently had some neighbors move into the apartment next to me who seem to enjoy themselves every Sunday morning (I'm guessing married couple for a while and it's there weekly fun time) So hearing them has been very exciting and so I started looking up sounds on the internet and stumbled into here.....I can't even remember how I found this place, I assume it was just a google search and this was one of the links.
Anyway, love the site and I'm going to try recording them and seeing what I can do. I just used my phone to record them talking today and I've been playing with Audacity to try and clean it up but no success yet. Figured I'd test on a normal thing before working on the real fun sounds. I see that people are willing to help out so if I get a decent one I'll try and get with someone to help with the cleanup.
That said, it wouldn't be a bad idea if someone wanted to put together a tutorial on what they use and how they go about cleaning files up. Might get a lot more uploads since we guys usually don't like to ask for help (it's a man thing lol). Anyway, thanks for having me, and I hope to contribute someday.
Greetings

Re: Greetings
Welcome. I'm somewhat new myself, I've uploaded a few clips of neighbors and my wife. I hope to hear what you have to offer. Most phone recording are a little rough. You should think about investing in a voice recorder. Look at eh Sony ICD products. They go for around $50 at Best Buy (if your in the US).

Re: Greetings
thanks yeppie, I've been browsing but haven't seen something like, " using xyz program, first click on menu then go to such and such and try to reduce the noise by filtering abc" basically just the steps our editing pros go through. I know it isn't an exact science and there is more of an art to it but just learning the basic steps of editing might help a lot of lurkers become active.

If it only would be that easyzbug6969 wrote:"using xyz program, first click on menu then go to such and such and try to reduce the noise by filtering abc"
I guess most people use Audacity because it is free, although I found it complex for a newbie. There are at least two tips for Audacity that might help a little:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3569&p=15582&hilit=audacity#p15582
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3470&p=14761&hilit=audacity#p14789
And of course there are the official tutorials:

I still recommend Adobe Audition because it was easier to understand for me.

Re: Greetings
I took Yeppie's advice and got a free copy of Audition 3, and have played around with it some. It does the same type of things as Audacity does, perhaps a little better in some cases. I do like the real-time noise reduction and notch filtering that Audition does. I think each program has its strengths and weaknesses, so I may do one thing on Audacity, save the file and then load it into Audition for more processing.
