Not Sound Related - Strange Find Stirred My Imagination

In a thread I posted about nearly getting caught and loosing equipment someone posed the question as to what you would do if you found a USB recorder. I responded by admitting what I did when I found some video tapes, but it also reminded me of something else I found. When it happened it made my imagination work overtime wondering what the story behind the find(s) was. To give it a context if it needs one I’m pretty sure it happened in the Spring about 12 years ago.

The incident occurred around 8.00am on a Saturday morning. I was driving out of town to meet a potential client. I realised I was far too early, so pulled into a small and empty countryside lay-bye to kill time. It had the usual discarded fast food rubbish spread around, but hanging on the hedge right by my car were a pair of stockings and some knickers. I couldn’t resist getting out for a closer look and as the articles were clean and dry I took them back into the car for closer inspection.

The stockings were hold ups and looked to be quite expensive ones. The knickers were similarly expensive looking and silky bikini brief style with a small amount of lacy decoration. All three articles had a subtle smell of very nice perfume. Straight away my imagination went into overdrive trying to figure out the story behind them being there. The voyeur in me would have loved to know the real story.

The next bit is going to sound improbable but it’s absolutely true. I couldn’t stop thinking about it so the following week returned at a similar time. This time there was another pair of knickers, but nothing else with them. Like the previous week they were very expensive looking and a similar style with the same subtle smell of perfume. Although I returned a number of times after finding the second pair I never found anything else.

I do admit that even to this day I sometimes pull into the lay-bye if I’m passing and still wonder!

I wonder if some guy did not buy used female things off of Craigs List or something and they decided to use a drop point and you stumbled on it. And then they tried again and you found it again? I dunno. Cool find though.

BTW, on the subject of the USB recorders, I just got off my ass and got 3 of them ordered up from Amazon. I am going to dissect one of them and see what the guts are like. Ideally I wanna make it really look like an ordinary USB stick so figuring a way around the switch will be necessary as will killing the LED. One thought that I have if the mic hole is easy to find is just wrapping the thing in a few turns of silicon "rescue" tape. This tape "melts" onto itself and leaves no lines. IN fact you can not take it off without cutting it. But it also is not sticky so it leaves no adhesive behind. If I go to an outdoor festival this coming summer I wanna be ready and if I stash things I don't want LED's flashing and I don't want them looking like anything but a normal USB stick if they are found. Even better is if they don't even show up as anything if you plug them in while they are turned on. If someone finds them they will just think they are dead and throw them out.

Interesting idea why the articles were there and thanks for trying, but too big a coincidence finding a second pair for me. Also too many "why nots" like why not in a discreet package under the hedge or why not in the post?

It's a really hard one and having been involved in plot development for media projects I know how easy it is to pick holes in stories. I did come up with quite a complex scenario, but can't remember what it was. Like most things I even wrote it down but have no idea where the file is now. If I find it I'll let you pick holes in that.
