Need assistance and advice
I got an intense, crazy, and LONG series of events in one take. The clip itself is over 1.4 GB in length and I spent over 2 years massaging all sorts of trash out of the audio and it is wild. It still has bad hiss and a nasty reverb that I can't take out without trashing what I already have.
But my question is this: How in the blazes can I get it to this forum along with the original clip, so that the skilled audiophiles can take a swing at it? I''ve been thinking segmenting both the original and cleaned up clip into 3 or 4 sets, zipping up both of them into zip files, password saving them, then uploading them into Google Drive, or similar cloud storage.
Ideas? Suggestions? All are welcome. I really want to get this set put on here for your enjoyment and see if anyone can massage these clips better.

Wow, this sounds like the real deal. You need to break it into parts using Audacity or something similar. Maybe a member could offer to do it for you.

Oh, I can make clips, but it's the security and being discreet in getting it online is my concern.

First off, I think there's something wring with either your file or your computer. A file needing 1.4 gigs for a two hour audio recording isn't right -- it shouldn't be a tenth that size for two hours.

This is a 4 hour recording, taken with an iPod touch through a wall.

Re: Need assistance and advice
I'd recommend first to resample it, e.g. with Audacity - my feeling is a good quota is 1min = 1 MB, would make 240 MB for a 4 hour recording.
These 240 MB you can split with HJSplit into 10 pieces each 24 MB.
Hope that helps.

I've tried resampling, it destroyed what was left. It's currently at 44100Hz 16 bit mono. Cutting it up and packaging it is fine. What I'd like to know is what would be the best way to deliver it to you guys (and gals) for your enjoyment.

Re: Need assistance and advice
you can upload max 32 MB on this Forum at once. it means you have to split your file into 32 MB chunks

Re: Need assistance and advice
Not in the scripts for this one. Short ones, yah, but this thing needs to stay together.
I wanted to use google drive for the file repository, but I'm also looking at zippyshare to park it there and then post links onto here. I just need to get this tweaked and packaged. I'll post the passwords for the zips as I go along.
UPDATE: Zippyshare looks like the winner of this debate. time to get cracking.

Re: Need assistance and advice
What format is the original un-massaged recording in? I ask because there's probably something you can do to get that file size down drastically without losing quality. Mp3-ing it isn't the best move to make here if you want other people to take a shot at cleaning it up, because it's a lossy format, and this becomes very noticeable beyond the first encoding.

Um-massaged:
File Type: 44100Hz, 16-bit, Mono
Uncompressed Size: 1.12 GB (1,204,287,488 bytes)
File Format: Windows PCM
Size on Disk: 1.12 GB (1,204,294,314 bytes)
Unedited length, nearly 4 hours. The iPod has 64GB in storage and it could have ran all night but i had to switch on the AC (I was roasting!).
Massaged: (still editing it for noise and length.)
File Type: 44100Hz, 16-bit, Mono
Uncompressed Size: 1.11 GB (1,198,641,888 bytes)
File Format: Windows PCM
Size on Disk: 1.11 GB (1,198,648,714 bytes)
Time length (still in edit) 3 hrs 45 minutes.
I played around with MP3 and ran into the trouble as described in the post above. (loss of quality). So I am pretty much in agreement not to muck with the compression or a different format.
I'm using Adobe Audition 3.0 to work things over, so anything is possible.

Re: Need assistance and advice
Does Audition support Flac or any other lossless format? That way, you could get the file size down without loss of quality just to make it easier to transfer to anyone else who'd want a shot at cleaning up. Of course, any clips that make it to the forum will probably end up having to be compressed to mp3, but that's best done at the final stage once there's stuff ready to be posted.

It does now.
EDIT: That's the nice thing about Audition, plugins and add ons, you can customize it to suit your needs.

I like to get more than less on recordings. I'm glad I did with this one because I never did hear half of the things that iPod caught.mjj9994 wrote:1.4 GB?! Holy data overload batman! Think that is bigger than all the files I have posted here combined (including videos). Lol
I wished I had my thru wall mic back then, the clarity!
