Safety
It's nice to surf the web, I'm finding info, news and softwares, sexy videos and audio...
I've discovered malcious web sites that is worrying me because I've got viruses many times and I also suspect
viruses that cannot be found. I'm just trying to warn people who are also concerned about their safety.
There's many multiple blacklist engines and online reputation tools at URLVoid that I've been using lately.
Web sites that appeared safe last month might be dangerous today, so one should scan again once in a while.
The question is what is false, what to take seriously. Well, I don't want to see any warnings at all.
Recently I was happy to find http://listoffreeware.com/best-free-aud ... re-windows
However, some links at that site appears not to be safe. And I'm sad to see that audacityteam.org is one of them.
One of the scan engines at Urlvoid, quttera.com reported malware, because there's a reference to a malicious blacklisted
domain at audacityteam.org... I don't know how serious that is, but I prefer to find another website to get what I want.
Now what's funny... I scanned quttera.com at URLVoid Safety Scan Report: SCUMWARE! ahhhahaha!

Re: Safety
If you are concerned about safe surfing and safe software, both are very legitimate concerns BTW, you can do what I do. Sign up at vmware.com and download a free copy of the vmware player. Once you have that installed you can create a virtual PC. You will have to install an OS on it. I still use XP on my sacrificial VM. I can surf anyplace with it, and download anything with it. I can scan it for viruses and install it and poke at it, and if it is virus free, and I like the way it works, I can than transfer it over to my "real" computer. You can not make snapshots in vmware player ( a snapshot is an image of a system in a given state, such as a virgin install of the OS before you put any unknown software on it) but you can copy the folder the VM lives in. That way if you infect your VM, you need not worry about trying to fix it. Just delete it and copy the the backup folder back, and that VM is good to go again, and zero damage to your real computers OS. I do the vast majority of exploring new software in one of my VM's.

Re: Safety
Its good to be aware of ur safety and ur pc health as well , and off course there is alot of malcious web sites and software out there , but just a small reminder , adult and porn websites can not publish google adsense so site owner try to find other ways to get money so they install other ad's system most of the time popups and popunders , which they don't do any harm but some security softwares consider them malcious . ..
Reggind advice using vmware.com is a good solution.

Re: Safety
If it's only about ads I wish they could change to better advertisers, same as xhamster did.
There's no bad reports on xhamster anymore, at least not today.
I'm still looking forward to mp3 uploads on your thread

Re: Safety
If it is just ad's adblock still works pretty good in chrome. I see a few more getting through than I used to but hopefully they will figure out how they are getting past the blocker and fix it. Also some sites are now detecting the blocker and I hope they figure out how to mask that too.

Re: Safety
I have Adblock Plus in Firefox. It seems effective but I'm still not sure if it's going to block what should be
blocked if I enter a web site with malicious ads.

Re: Safety
First, I'm not expert. I'm just concerned about my safety online and it's good if I can help others at the same time. I'm trying to find the best way to protect myself online without need to install big apps and mess with complicated configurations. I've been talking about URLVoid and I thought it's good, I mean the scan engines it's using. URLVoid itself is not responsible because it's only provides about 25 scan engines at one single page. But I'm suspecting false alerts especially at scumware.org where it's very hard for a novice to find a simple reason to the alerts, while all other scan engines says the link is safe. I'm still using URLVoid sometimes but it's quite tiresome and time consuming to go there just to scan a link. I remember AVG or some other virus program on the PC was showing a reputation icon at every link in all web browsers. After reinstalling Windows I don't remember how to get the icons back. I've found the Firefox add-on called WOT that does the same and I trusted it for a while, but after reading all the bad reviews I'm not sure anymore. Firefox add on: Web of Trust, WOT: Website Reputation Ratings
However, it also depends on users behaviour and what they believe. Some cannot live without WOT, and some hate it for different reasons.
I like it because of the icons and because it's updated by users reports. Again it might lead to false alerts, that one probably have to take with a grain of salt. But most of the time there seems to be accurate information. There's a community at MyWOT.
As I know, WOT is also available for Android. But that version doesn't show any reputation icons next to the links and it only supports native Android browsers and Chrome. Instead of the icons a popup warning will be shown AFTER you entered a site with bad reputation. That's why I prefer the PC version for now and it seems like the best way until here is to use multible sources like URLVoid, where actually one of the scan engines is mywot.com

Re: Safety
So I guess that I am one of those WOT haters. I had a discussion in their community about this website once because it got a very bad rating only because the hypocritical morons over there didn´t like the idea that somebody might enjoy listening to sexsounds. That our community is a pretty safe place for users didn´t matter to them! Furthermore, discussing this topic wasn´t possible, they weren´t open-minded at all.

Re: Safety
Hi,
I thought I would share an experience I had which is vaguely related to this thread.
About eighteen months ago I tried an experiment, just to see what would happen. I bought an old laptop from market stall for £20 then completely cleared it and re-installed a new operating system but no virus protection. I took it to Starbucks and connected to the internet. I visited a number of what I thought would be safe sites, bbc.co.uk, telegraph.co.uk, etc, and waited to see what would happen.
It took three or four minutes before the thing went crazy and started visiting random sites, some of which looked a bit nasty - pictures of Arabic crowds burning flags, and then much worse stuff. I lost use of the keyboard and the mouse, no ctrl-alt-delete anymore, then after only a couple more minutes it crashed. It was actually quite a disturbing thing to witness, even though I knew there was absolutely no danger at all.
I took the laptop outside, placed it over a kerbstone, smashed it with my foot and dumped the bits in the waste bin. Not sure what the coffee drinking public thought about this behaviour but I had no intention of ever powering up that machine again.
It was a salutary lesson in the dangers of going-in unprotected.
