re audio editing and cleaning, check my guide to professional audio cleaning in the tech section, if you have a current version of audacity you can skip downloading wavelab and proceed to the RS Tools section as Audacity now supports the VST plugin format - never tried it but RS tools should run ok on audacity if the format is supported,

to clean and boost a file use rs denoiser set it in adaptive mode and reduce the noise reduction slider from 12db to something where you get a good compromise between background noise and what you want to hear,

rs dehum for aircon or any other mains induced noise - set to 50/60hz according to the mains electric frequency in your region,

rs dereverb just play with the settings until it sounds right,

rs decrackle set to adaptive.

Still not got the time to finish the full tutorial for each tool but above are the basic settings that should get instant success for most users.

Actually, understand the basics (theoretically). I was interested which instruments were used to make the speech more clear in this certain recording - every tutorial is more effective when it is given also through examples:)

True, Yeppie. Audacity has been one of the best free audio editors for many years. You can do lots of tricks with it if you take the time to learn it.

I am still a big fan of this recording... heared it already four times and it sounds like she is mentioning her boyfriend at the end several times, maybe as an excuse because she is doing this with another guy and he is not there...
