Hi all.
I have about 1Gb of files I could post. However they have all been collected from various places. None done by me.
I don't want to duplicate stuff already sent.
I particularly don't want to step on anyones toes if a file I have is one either recorded by a member or originally posted by a member here.
I also want to make sure that posting non original files is ok - should have asked this prior to my first post.
Some of my files are reasonably big - 30Mb+. Are these ok? If not what is largest file size that can be posted? - I can cut files down with Sound Forge.
I can provide a list of stuff I got if that would be useful.
Thanks for any and all info you can provide.
J
Wanting to ask a question before posting more files.

Hey J - Welcome aboard!
Ok... you can find a list of all the files that are already in our collection of previous posts here:

Non-original content is ok here, as long as the sound is leget and idealy as long as it's not ripped from commercially copyrighted amateur sites and suchlike. Actually, that last part tends to slip from time to time, but if you're going to post stuff that could be legally messy make sure its worth the risk and that the sound is a beauty!!
Don't worry about treading on anyones toes. You've already said that you didn't record any of the files. Someone claiming my recordings as their own catches would piss me off, but not much else does, and I think everyone else is the same.
As for those big files of 30mb, Yeppie would have to answer you about the size limits. My guess though, is that they'd be 30mb uncompressed, so we could make mp3's at reasonable bitrates of them to get the size down dramatically without losing much sound quality. If you need help with that, feel free to ask.
Think that covers everything... lookin forward to what you've got

Thanks for the tips guys.
I will take on board the info you have given me. In relation to editing of sounds and reduction of bitrates - I actually mess about with audio files for fun. I am one of those idiots who manually edits recorded vinyl and gets out all the clicks. I used to be a musician many years ago and almost lived in the studio for 3 years - not that that means I know more than anyone here - I am happy to learn faster better methods.
I will put all files in the various folder. After I have a look and see what has been posted.
I understand the comment about changes to filenames - we cannot really be certain there will be no duplicates - however I can try and NOT make duplicates by checking first.
I also "accidentally" have many amateur or voyeur type video files. These are not from a specific website - some are obviously web cam captures. I have a very good news group provider . Possibly some audio grabs from these might be nice to have.
As a bit more info about me - I am a computer tech - so anyone with problems with computer - software or hardware - please feel free to contact me. Computer problems interfere with good listening - cannot have that .
Thanks again Scott and yeppie for your response - I appreciate it.
