My first white USB mic' recording.

Hi,

My first recording with a white USB recorder on top of a door surround. It's not as clear as a base of door recording, but it's pretty good nonetheless.

I was staying in a UK airport hotel last Tuesday. I saw this couple check-in at about eight pm and it was pretty obvious from their luggage and dress that they would be flying out for a holiday the next morning. I'd say they we both in their mid to late twenties. She was perhaps 5'10", medium length dyed blonde hair, medium build but not overweight, with nice sized breasts concealed under a white logoed t-shirt. He was similar height a build, short dark hair, clean shaven and also wearing a logoed t-shirt.

I timed things so I would be going up in the lift with them and selected the top floor. They got out on the fourth and I was able to see them go to a room immediately opposite the lift.

I returned about five minutes later. Their room situation was less than ideal due to the background noise and the difficulties of concealment, so I put the white USB mic' on top of the door frame, where I left it for several hours. The clip here was recorded about 90 minutes in, probably at about 9.40 pm.

Thanks for your comments, and thanks to gekko1 for you suggestions about using white USB mic's. They work really well.

In addition to the t-shirt she was wearing denim cutoff shorts, a grey hoodie and a silk or cotton scarf. I think the hoodie it was a zip-up because it was open and her breasts were keeping the two sides apart with sufficient force that I wasn't able to draw my eyes towards checking out the fastening method. I seem to recall he was wearing jeans and no jumper over his t-shirt.

If the doorframe is white, you can stick the mic with the hole nearest to the bottom gap. Unless there is a strong contrast, people aren't looking for it so don't notice, whereas if it were laying on the floor, you'd probably lose it.

This stuff goes a LONG way. Cut into small strips/squares. Fairly strong, so when you retrieve, rather than trying to lift directly, grab mic and turn laterally (like if it were a helicopter wing) and will disengage with no trouble. If you do carefully enough where no paint comes off with the tape (takes practice) you can reuse unless you pocket it where the tape then grabs your pocket lint. This can be very useful if you planted one place then discover a better door and want to move it. Plus, keeping a few pre-cut strips/squares on you will be helpful in some cases.

To remove tape from mic, just use your thumbnail and 'dig' repeatedly from one end.

This is beautiful. A very good result. Whats great is that it has a very authentic feel, kinda like you can hear it 2 doors down if you lived in the same corridor.

Airport hotels always seem to be popular. Why wait till the holiday when you can do it now
