Error Messages

Post by yeppie »

I have installed some spam-detection and prevention scripts which led to errors for a bunch of users when logging in. I deactivated some components later and hope that everything works better now.

As I do not have any problems - not only as admin but also when using a newly registered account - I need your help to check if the system is working correctly again.

If you receive any message like this:
CBACK CrackerTracker has detected a potential attack on this site with a worm or exploit script so the Security System stopped the script.
please inform me as soon as possible.

Thank you!

there are still some problems with the forum software as some users pointed out during the last days. to inform everybody i´m posting a message that RP sent to me:

Hi yeppie!

The only way to send you a PM was to reply to an old PM.

I've read somewhere there's problem with the code but I see no announcement about it.

When I'm about to view anyones profile I get this error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_DOUBLE_ARROW, expecting ')' in /mounted-storage/.../.../.../.../.../.../.../usercp_viewprofile.php on line 201

[b]bold text don't work, etc.[/b]

Regards, RP

Hi RP

thanks for asking!
you´re right, we have to different code problems here.

bbcode doesn´t work (the buttons above the message) because i installed an add-on to show youtube clips in messages long before i started the ulisten script. not only did that installation fail but it crashed the bbcode function of the forum software. i deleted all changes but still no bbcode possible.

html code does work

if you use html (like <> </> ) brackets instead of the bbcode (like [b] [/b] for bold), you should see the result above. i know that is not the best solution.

the problem with the member profiles is similar but yet somewhat different. you might remember that we have been attacked by spammers a few months ago, leaving spam messages in the forum.
i have done a lot to prevent this and one of the measurements was to change the possibilities to grab information like email adresses of the members.

it was intended to let only registered and logged-in members see the profile information but the result was that no one (not even me) can access member profiles from the frontend. they are still there as i can open the profiles from the admin panel.

why didn´t i repair those bugs?

concerning the profiles, returning to the old status quo was no option. it looks like i have finally succeeded in banning spambots and i won´t risk to open the door again. i´m sure you will agree that safety overrides convenience.

the only choice i have (and of course the members too) is to live with those incommodities or to find the errors within the script and to change the code. problem is that i´m not skilled enough to do so - i tried without success. it would take me days to have this fixed, time that i don´t have besides my job and the usual maintenance of this site.

RP, i hope that you understand that according to my priorities i didn´t fix this yet. hopefully one of the next updates of the forum software will do so.

regards
yeppie
