It's definitely true that no one can know for sure.

But the gut instinct that humans are born with is real and works well.

One of the things I look for in recordings is talking; as the way they talk and what they say can give us insight. There are some recordings I have listened to just to hear what they say or for subtle sounds which tell us what is going on.
