I have housemates who go at it pretty regular, but like to turn on fairly loud music or movies during. I got the idea to record some of this - just a few short clips (basically Three minutes spread over four clips). You can hear them, but the movie is dominant.
I know nothing about sound software. I played around with a free trial of Audition, and I managed to make their voices and sounds more isolated from the music; but also bizarre sounding and robotic. I really don’t know what I am doing.
I can’t imagine this is a rare issue, but I have no idea what to do with it, apart from enjoy what I can hear through the movies music. Are there people on here interested in taking a look at files like this, or giving tips on cleaning them up? I read the pointers on using sound software post, but it seems to have ended before covering what I would need, though it helped.
I’d record more, but I’m not sure it would be any more useful.

Best to keep it raw and let us be the judge. You never know if you have stumbled on gold
But you are not alone, this is a common and sadly annoying occurance when the couple decides to turn up the wrong sort of volume. Cant really help it. Sometimes they are drunk and they forget so do keep an eye out for those events.
Sometimes they are fully audible despite the music and TV so it makes it even more authentic. You just never know. For us, its best if a file is left raw and if it needs editing someone here always does it

Definitely upload the files you can capture. As I often say we are pulling the needles from haystacks here as far as sounds go. There is seldom a totally perfect recording. It can be anything from the TV or radio to the HVAC system kicking on and off. Some sounds are just worth putting up with the clutter for and different people seem to like different things.
As far as cleaning up the audio files, this is a very well known problem. Small amounts of doctoring can often make a file sound better, but larger amounts leave artifacts that most people find more offensive sounding than the noise you are trying to remove. Some software also has more adjustments in the noise reduction, and sometimes if you are willing to trade more processing time, you can get slightly better results.
The other thing is if you are listening to the file to hear the general sound of the people, or if you are like me and try and pick out the little whispered under the breath dialog. Sometimes you can pick this out but you generally need to make the rest of the recording sound pretty bad to do so. So, under the idea of cleaning a file up there is the question of weather you want it to be "nicer" to listen to overall, or if you want to try and pull a few little things out at the expense of the rest.

Re: New guy, jumbled recording
Well, I tried a USB recorder and even in the same room it is so raw that I honestly don't know I've recorded anything except a noise or two comes out, and I've no idea when it stops or starts. The AC unit is covering everything. I have not seen anything posted on here that would need the kind of work this would to be workable. Is there somewhere (or someone) where extra raw footage is appreciated? I don't know how to deal with this noise.
