The thing with piezoelectric mics is they have a very high output impedance, typically in the megohm range. Most normal mic preamps are designed to work with a much lower input impedance. The gross missmatch makes the pizeo both very insensitive and very "thin" sounding. Most piezoelectric mics come with a preamp that is designed to take the high impedance of the piezoelectric element and transform it to a low impedance to drive a normal preamp. Often times they also have equalization that makes the piezoelectric element sound much more natural. There are a lot plans for simple one transistor based piezoelectric preamps on the net. They typically use a field effect transistor for it's high input impedance, which is a good match for the piezoelectric element. I have no idea how well they would work with the above mentioned mic, but you should be able to put one together for under $20 in parts.
