As they were in the main part of the apartment, I used the power point to charge our mobile phones which was located next to their bed. What they did not realise that I had programmed my mobile phone to act as a recorder and appear to dead. This was the first time I had used my phone as a recorder and was very surprised with the quality and recording capacity. The phone was placed face up on the table some 1.5m away from all of the action and there was no background hum or distortion and I would say unreservedly, exceptionally clear.
The 2 GB card gives up to 49 hours of recording time and when used on mains (charging the phone) the recorder can last for the duration. On battery power the unit can last up to 17 hours before it goes flat.
One word of caution - switch off the phone function before you record a session and disable the speaker, so that you don't have any embarrassing noises from the phone that might give it all away.
The program also has a feature that allows all buttons to be disabled and the screen to remain switched off until a combination of a couple of buttons are pressed. This allows the phone to seem quite dead to anyone who picks it up.
