Thermal Camera
Hey everyone - If I were to, hypothetically, use a thermal camera outside a tent to just make sure everyone inside is safe, would that be fair game for this forum?
Thanks
Thanks

Negative Pico.
This is an audio forum, not video. You post MP3s on the forum here. Videos go on the tube sites and such.
Appreciate you asking first though.

If you need to borrow Thermal Equipment you should go up to the nearest Fire station and ask if you can use their Thermal Equipment for a few dayspico wrote: 19 Aug 2021 01:37 Hey everyone - If I were to, hypothetically, use a thermal camera outside a tent to just make sure everyone inside is safe, would that be fair game for this forum?

Re: Thermal Camera
Out of curiosity I checked out the specs for these things and resolution on even the highest priced fire detection units is like 320x240. When you get into FLIR your options are a bit better but the high resolution ones are typically reserved exclusively for law enforcement and run $50,000-$100,000 USD.

Re: Thermal Camera
I just googled thermal imaging test video. The resolution is quite a bit better than I had thought.
That said, pretty sure even the most sophisticated ones are not designed to go through any materials.. so unless you have direct line of sight they may not even be able to pick up anything through something as thin as a tent or behind any objects.

It maybe kinda could work, depending on the ambient heat difference. If the weather was pretty chilly out then it may be able to pick up the heat signatures behind the fabric.

Re: Thermal Camera
Yeah i was at a campsite where the tents were each about 30-50 feet from path using a FLIR One. No dice. I think if you were within 10 feet you’d start to pick things up but, at least where I was, getting that close was a challenge. Anyone have any experience with something like this on amazon?
