Re: (directional) shotgun microphone
I bought one about 25 years ago (the product has of course since been discontinued). I tested it out a bit around the neighborhood and it did seem to isolate and amplify sounds but did have limitations (not through glass windows, walls, floors, etc). I believe frequency for most of these types are around 40 Hz to 20 kHz. Range is probably 200-500 meters. I remember first playing with it and pointed it at the direction of a street crossing a few blocks away (maybe 400-600 meters) and could hear the vehicles moving around that area more distinctively. Price at the time was pretty reasonable (around 30-50 Euros, but just now looking seems to have increased a bit (60-100 Euros). The one I purchased was similar to the ones below:

These seem to be nice.. but I'd buy it only if I had some reliable sources of sounds ..

Re: (directional) shotgun microphone
All of the sounds I post here are personal recordings done either on cell phone or a small usb type recorder. The shotgun mic was just a cheap toy at the time I tried out for a bit, but I do not have the time/patience to go hunting like some of the folks on here. Props to them for getting the sounds they do, that is like some James Bond type of work!listenmyneighbor wrote: 20 Dec 2022 11:37 what equipment do you currently use?
