is there any way to see which thread is already viewed?
I know I can see if I saw the last post but not the thread itself.
I mean I sometimes check the interesting threads of the last days/weeks
and realize I know the most of them already. Any way to avoid it?

Well, if there is a new post in a thread, the symbol in front of the thread will turn to red. If you already saw all posts in a thread, the symbol will be grey. This is the standard in phpBB but might be depending on the style chosen.
