Adobe Audition for free!

Post by yeppie »

Adobe gives older Software away for free, serial numbers included. You can download media tools from their website where you will find the Creative Suite (CS2) and standalone software like Photoshop CS2 and Audition 3.0. I bought Audition 2 years ago and it is still my favorite audio editor.

Here ist the link (english language):

If you are looking for other language versions, you should check your countries website (replace de with your code), the german version can be found here:

Thanks Yeppie! Which of the two audition files do you recommend downloading?

Ehm, I see 3 of them and I guess you need to download all of them. Beware, huge files (over 4gb).

I took advantage of the opportunity and downloaded Audition. I've played around with it a little, and have found that the noise reduction is better than Audacity (or at least easier because it is more automated, and in real time). Thanks, Yeppie.

A really useful post and as an Audition user I would recommend it to anyone who wants some processing software. I would also recommend getting the latest free version available, as updates to the software have improved NR and many other effects. I think a big step came in 5.5, but I suspect it's unlikely that's available for free yet.

There are two other options though, if you have particular files you need to work on. The first option being that Audition CS6 is available for 30 days completely free. You just download the trial version (it's a full version) and you get 30 days to try it out. It's also the same with all other Adobe products like Photoshop. It's not ideal as you do only get 30 days, but if you don't want to pay out the big sums involved for the full things it gives you the chance to work on specific files.

The second option is the new Creative Cloud. You do have to pay out for a months subscription, but you get it back in full if you cancel within 30 days. I recently subscribed and have to say that Adobe are vague to the point of being deceptive about what you get if you subscribe at this point of time. If you subscribe now you get all Adobe versions of CS6, which is fine if you intend to continue subscribing like I do, but if you want the 30 days money back trial, then wait! Audition CC as it will be known is due for release on June 17th via Creative Cloud only. It has what might be an interesting new NR tool called Sound Remover, so might be useful on some files.

As far as I'm aware there's nothing stopping you from using the trial version of CS6 for 30 days and then doing the money back offer for CC and an extra 30 days with that. For those who haven't used Audition it would give you a chance to get familiar with it in CS6 and then to continue with CC. I have no idea if the money back offer is a promotion for the launch of Creative Cloud, or if it will continue forever like the trial versions, so do check if you decide to try it.

Just a note, but I didn't actually subscribe for Audition, it was Photoshop Lightroom that I needed to update. It would have cost me well over £100 and now for £16 a month (12 months contract with a full money back if I cancel within 30 days) I have all the CS6 versions of Adobe and will get the new CC versions at no extra cost when they are released later this month. It will also include all later updates. Also the CC versions will only be available through Creative Cloud.
