Bummer!

Post by mysx »

Oh sorry but this is a negative post, I'm pissed, bad luck, OMG!!! ....Well the story is that I've got a neighbor finally who have got a expressful lady.... But the problem is that I cannot afford a proper device to record them.... My iPhone 4 voice recording sucks, the recording volume is all too low and I've had to encrease the volume with Audacity to be able to hear anything..... Then I've got a laptop and I've found that my external Logitech webcam is much better to record sound than anything else I've got... Today I've heard them making love after a long time of waiting, and I hurry to start my laptop... it was recording well, I thought, but suddenly warning messages said there's no sound..... WHAT????? ...I got stressed and I tried to correct the problem asap... but again the same error.... and a message said that Logitech software is BETA on Windows 8.... And on top of all the webcam microphone wasn't activated...... Hahahaha! .....Ok there's another day tomorrow..... :D

Thanks sc0tt-uk

Again I missed another session... I was on phone when I heard the action, I started my laptop while talking about other things, the laptop is fast with a SSD disc, I just have to log in and start the webcam program and set the webcam microphone (that isn't default for some reason), then start the video recording and then.... it's over.... they're done already....... hahahaha! ... :D

Oh man....... you have a crazy expressive couple next door having fun but you don't have the $$ to capture them properly? That IS a bummer. Short of buying specialized survellence equipment, it seems that a lot of the new digital video camcorders with a sensitive micrphone on them works great. Put the microphone level in "manual" mode and crank the record level all the way up. You'll be surprised how sensitive the microphones on these new video cameras are when you manually turn the audio record level way up on them.

A camcorder with a good microphone would be great, just press a button as soon as you hear something, same as with voice recorders. Sadly I cannot afford such device like our friend Audio who have got good recordings with his Olympus LS3 PCM Voice Recorder... Hopefully during a calm summer night I might have a great recording using my webcam, the trick is to be ready on time...

You'll also be surprised how few options you'll have to enhance your recording after the event, surprised how insanely noisy cheap devices often get at high gain levels, and surprised how easily most cheap devices can be clipped on the way in. In other words, don't do that!

Go in at a safe level, and boost after the fact if you need to. If you don't know what you're doing with this stuff yet, ask here and one of the regular contributors will nudge you in the right direction. Believe me, you're better off posting a file that maybe needs a little work that was recorded with an autogain function than posting something that distorts all the way to hell and back when manual goes wrong. The former is easy and some people here will be happy to help, but the latter is practically impossible to fix.

RP, I'm pretty sure you know this already man, but felt like I should respond for anyone else reading this in future who might be just starting out.
