Adobe Audition 2020 – Reducing the Price

I know Adobe products are not cheap, but if you read this, you have to bear in mind what they used to cost. I am talking UK prices here. Go back 20 years and a single app could have cost around £500, with upgrades costing around £150. A lot of money

For that reason, I think those who are eligible for the Adobe CC student/education package, get a pretty good deal for under £200 a year (monthly for first 12 months). Not only would that include Audition 2020, with it’s great DeNoise N.R. effect (no artefacts and very simple/fast to use). It would also include great apps like Photoshop, Premier Pro, Illustrator and many more, with all the upgrades. Great if you have kids who use any of these apps at school/college.

I can’t be sure what is required now, but verifying my eligibility for the student/education package was very simple. A scan of headed paper from my kid’s school, with a simple message and date. Along the lines of “I can confirm that (name) is on roll at this school (date).” I can’t even remember if it was signed, but it was genuine and did not look very impressive.

You can even half the price (£8.12 per month) if you have a friend/relative who will contribute and wants to use it. That’s because any two devices from any two locations can be using a single Adobe CC subscription at the same time.

For me it was enough to use my university-email while registering to be eligible for the reduced price.

You may well be right now, but that wasn't the case when I first signed up for Adobe CC. Although I was doing it as a parent with children in education. I contacted them and was told that nursery to uni counted. My daughter at the time was 9 or 10. It could be that things have changed, or that individuals who sign up have to be 14+ years.

I was prompted to post this after I contacted Adobe yesterday. I asked them why I was paying £10 a month more than their site indicated the plan cost. I was told it was because with student education packages, there's a 65% discount for the first 12 months and then it drops to 40%. I accepted that, but was impressed with what happened next.

The customer support person, put me on hold for two minutes and came back with good news. She just cancelled my existing plan and started a new one that was £10 a month cheaper. It didn't effect any apps or cloud storage. Added to the monthly reduction, as a gesture of good will she refunded the £26 for my most recent payment.

Having done all that, she told me she had to verify my student/education status. She did this by asking if I still had youngsters in education. I replied "yes" and she was happy to accept that. Yesterday Adobe made me smile

Something to consider.. And this is not just with Adobe.. Any of the many products that you now rent instead of have persistent copies of, and keep some or all of your work in the cloud. If you are using a hobbyist, non commercial, or student discount, read the terms of service carefully. You may be signing away your rights to keep them from checking on what you are doing with their products. For a lot of things this is a very fair exchange. You get discounted use and they can learn how the product is being used and how effective it is. However this is one case where you may not want them checking out your work. Read the disclosures carefully. BTW, the new age limit of over 14 may be because I believe in the US there are laws that keep sites from tracking the activity of kids under 13. I think yourtube just got into some trouble over that.
