I have no idea idea what was being celebrated, but even with me there, they were a bit more active than usual...

First one I lucked out on. Didn't even think they were home. Was prepping for bed and heard the moans and threw my recorder on. Stayed alert after because they were still chatting and giggling - and sure enough a bit over an hour later, they had their 2nd & final coupling for the evening..

* If I am planting the recorder when tired figuring a good chance I'll sleep through it or when leaving on to go to work - ending up with a 12 hour file, I pretty much have to leave on mp3 128 br. However, being at full attention last night and correctly guessing sloppy seconds were in the making, I switched to .wav format. I think this will be my regular practice..

I think the Olympus should be capable of recording 320 kbps more than 12 hours.

Ha, all of the above. I just have a VP10. OK mic, high sensitivity. One AAA battery. 4GB non expandable. But pretty basic.

I read complaints that it's very slow. That's a deal-breaker for me.

Consider this before you buy. But I guess it doesn't matter if you're just going to let it sit the whole night.

For what it's designed for - music and podcast production, the boot up probably works. For our hobby, a minute is an eternity; can miss a treasure of amazing sounds in that time period. Will look closer at the Sony UX570. Rated higher than Olympus for recording quality.
